PORT ST. JOE, Fla. – Sacred Heart Hospital on the Gulf is pleased to announce that Dr. Richard Brunner, a board certified general surgeon, is now seeing patients three days a week in Port St. Joe. Dr. Brunner is the chief surgeon at the new hospital and has been performing surgeries there since the end of March.

Dr.  Brunner obtained his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences and performed his residency training in surgery at the University of Florida Health Sciences Center in Jacksonville. He has broad experience in performing general surgery using minimally invasive, laparoscopic techniques. He also is trained in thoracic, vascular, gynecologic and trauma surgery. He has practiced in Marianna since 1989 and is an assistant professor of surgery for the rural track of Florida State University Medical School.

Dr. Brunner is part of Sacred Heart Medical Group, a large network of more than 100 primary care physicians and specialists with offices in Northwest Florida and South Alabama. His new office is located in a modular building on the campus of Sacred Heart Hospital on the Gulf. He sees patients in Port St. Joe Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and he sees patients in Marianna on Thursday and Friday.

Sacred Heart Hospital on the Gulf, a new 25-bed hospital in Port St. Joe, features 24-hour emergency services, inpatient services, surgical services, a full complement of diagnostic and laboratory services, and a helipad to be used by Sacred Heart's regional air ambulance service to provide rapid transport for trauma or critically ill patients.
